Job Search Coaching

You might be just starting off in your career, or you might be making a mid-career change for any one of a number of reasons.  This could include simply wanting a change of work environment, looking for a promotion or better conditions, redundancy or geographic relocation.
Finding, and applying for jobs, is often said to be the "hardest job of all".  Sometimes even some subtle changes in your approach, or the documentation you submit, can make a really big difference and significantly shorten the duration of your job search.
When my clients tell me they been been applying for lots of jobs, but are not yet successful, it's important to make sure we are working on the right issues for them.  This means asking:
  • Are you getting interviews routinely, but not offers?  If so, we probably need to focus on polishing up your INTERVIEW SKILLS and maybe discuss handling "assessment centres" too.
  • If you aren't getting interviews regularly from your WRITTEN APPLICATIONS, are you applying for positions that you genuinely have most of the skills, experience and qualifications for (you usually don't need absolutely all)?   Yes/No?
  • If yes, then we probably need to look more closely at your applications documents including your:
    • resume
    • letters of application, and
    • attention to selection criteria
  • If no, then we need to explore the type of position or role you're applying for and where you are more likely to be successful.
  • Another important "tool" in your JOB SEARCH kit is being aware of the "hidden job market" and how to tap into the vacancies that might not be making onto the vacancy websites.
Please note:  I don't provide a resume or application writing service.  If you want or need the application done for you, then I can make appropriate referrals.  However, I have long observed that gaining the skills to write your own applications successfully makes a huge difference to a client's confidence moving forward and greatly increases their awareness of their  skills and abilities.
